Week of May 15-19

Not a whole lot to report for this week other than we have our Field Trip to the Planetarium on Tuesday, May 16th.  We will be leaving the school at 8:30 in the morning.  I will have an itinerary for the chaperons to follow.  I will be sending a note home today to those chaperons letting you know what to bring.  Please remember to send students with a lunch and a drink.  We do not go to the gift shop so the students do not need any money.  We should be back to the school between 4:30 and 4:45 that afternoon.   I also want to remind parents that we have our Spring Concert that same evening.  Students will need to be at the high school auditorium by 6:15.  The concert will start at 6:30.  That is all I have for this week.  Please check the Friday Flier section for a list of concepts being discussed next week.  Y'all have a great weekend.

We have scheduled the field trips for the remainder of the year.  We will be attending the Clark Planetarium on May 16th and the Hogle Zoo on May 31st.  Because of how busy we are during the month of May we ended up scheduling the Planetarium on the same day as our spring music concert.  We will be back by 5:00 that day and students will need to be at the high school by 6:15 the latest.  The music concert will start at 6:30.  Monday, May 1st will be an early release day.  Other than that you can check the Friday Flier portion of my website to see all reading and math concepts being discussed. Yall have a great weekend.

Week of March 6-10

Reminder that we are starting our PAWS assessment next week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  We are asking to please make sure students are here on time everyday.  School starts at 7:50.  The school will provide a breakfast on those days for students to eat.  We are also having a pep rally on those days to get students pumped up about the test.  We will test in the morning.  Because we are taking the reading portion first we will mainly focus on math next week.  We are done with Unit 4 so we will be taking our Unit 4 benchmark assessment next week.  I know that we don't necessarily look forward to these assessments but none the less they are important and we need to make sure we remind the students to do their best in a positive way.  Thank you for your support.

Week of February 13-17

Reminder that we have our once a month swim on Wednesday, February 15th.  I also wanted to remind parents to please make sure you are checking and signing your child's assignment notebook.  We had several students come in this week and didn't have one single day signed.  The purpose for this is to check to see what we are doing and to see if they have any homework.  Several students had homework Monday night and because their notebooks were not signed I didn't receive that homework until Wednesday so please check the notebooks and signed them.  I also wanted to let parents know that we have had an issue with behaviors this week as well.  I had to remind students every day this week that when we wake up we need to tell ourselves that today is a day that I will have a positive attitude and will make positive choices.  I had to use a large part of class time this week towards character education and because of this we were not able to get as much completed that we needed to.  Lastly we have PTO muffins with mom on Friday, February 17th.  I hope everyone has a wonderful relaxing weekend.

Week of January 30-February 3

This week will be a regular week.  We will begin Unit 4 in our reading series.  The story is title Wings.  We are also moving on in math to area and perimeter.  Reminder that on Thursday and Friday we will have parent/ teacher conferences.  I have everyone scheduled for Thursday.  Because of that some of the conferences will only run about 15 minutes in order to accommodate everyone.  We are about to move in to February so that means we only have one more month until we begin taking the PAWS assessment.  This is a state assessment which means we need to have all students in class during the month of March.  We will begin testing March 7th and hopefully be done by March 16th if everything goes smoothly.  We are asking parents to avoid making any plans for the month of March like trips and vacations.  Spring Break is right around the corner.  If yall could help me with that I would be greatly appreciative.  Below you will find a list of concepts being discussed next week in class.

Well we complete our first official full week of school of the new year.  Just a few things.  We will not have a weekly reading, grammar, or spelling test.  We are finished with Unit 3 so instead we will our third benchmark assessment of the year.  You can review all spelling patterns for Unit 3 as well as all grammar concepts starting with action/linking verbs, helping and main verbs, verb tenses, and irregular verbs.  We will be taking our fourth math assessment dealing with quadrilaterals.  They will need to work on identifying them and describing their characteristics.  Friday was the official start of the third quarter.  Students will receive their third quarter point goal this week so please make sure students are reading at least 20-30 minutes a night.  Lastly we have completed winter MAP assessments.  We will now begin looking toward PAWS and getting the students ready for that assessment.  I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend.

Week of January 16-20

What a crazy week.  It was good to get back into the classroom after all that snow.  It was decided today that the last day of the 2nd quarter will be Thursday, January 19th.  All AR goals must be completed by the end of that day.  Next week we will finish our last story in Unit 3 title Volcanoes.  Using that story we will cover comparing and contrasting, along with Irregular Verbs, and our spelling will cover words with WR, KN, MB, and GN.  In math we are looking at geometry specifically quadrilaterals.  Donuts with dads will be Friday, January 20th.  There is a modified Friday Flier coming home this weekend but no updates with each grade level.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and we will see everyone on Monday.

Week of January 9-13

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and snow day.  I want to remind everyone that Monday the 9th and Friday the 13th are early release days so students will be getting out at 12:50 that day.  Next week we will continue in our reading street series with a story title A Symphony of Whales.  This story has proven to challenging in the past so please make sure students are reading it every night and discussing it with you.  We have taken our third math assessment which dealt with multiplication and division along with strategies.  Please make sure students are practicing their math facts nightly.  We will begin getting into Geometry by discussing quadrilaterals and the different types of quadrilaterals.  Friday, January 13th is the last day of the quarter so please make sure students are reading and trying to get their AR points.  Lastly we will begin our winter MAP testing so please make sure students get a good nights rest and a nutritious breakfast in the morning.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
